09/19/2018 — Update: My grandmother passed away over a year ago. This shawlette is now in the possession of my cousin. She wrapped it around her daughter and sent me a photo (…a while ago, I’m only just now adding it). I’ve added it here because Asya is just so darn cute
06/28/2015 — Update: My mother gave this small shawl to her mother when she visited Dagestan in March. Still no photos of the completed work :\ It was beautiful, though! And impressed all of my aunts and cousins :D
12/26/2014 — Final, post-block measurements: 44” across, 22” down. Nowhere near the promised 56” wingspan :\ It’s more like a large kerchief. I wonder if my mom will be able to wear it… I guess we’ll see?
12/25/2014 — Finally finished the darn thing. It’s a wee bit smaller than I would have liked but I’m blocking it now and hope it’s post-block measurements are more to my liking. Other than that, I loved the pattern and the yarn was great.
10/07/2014 — Making decent progress on this shawl (considering I just got a new kitten who refuses to let me knit in peace). Using floss to add the beads since my teeny-tiny crochet hook wasn’t teeny-tiny enough. (The tip is tapered so I can’t queue up too many beads. The floss lets me have dozens of beads waiting to be embedded in the work.)
08/30/2014 — Before I begin, I’m weighing my yarn so I know how much I end up using: madtosh: 108g Malabrigo: 102g
08/29/2014 — Knit the swatch. Love the color combo! I had to MacGyver a solution for the beading that included a needle threader. I’m buying a 1.25mm crochet hook to use for adding the beads.
08/18/2014 — Yarn purchased! Beads acquired (via Etsy)! I am ready!
