Oh My! Baby Booties
Made one as the pattern instructed but really didn’t like it. I didn’t like the St st cuff, I thought the foot was too long, and I didn’t want to have to seam… so I modified it:
Using long-tail cast-on, CO 30 sts over 3 dpns (US 6). With 4th dpn, work in twisted 1×1 rib (* k1 tbl, p1 * around) for 12 rnds. Rnds 13-14: knit. Rnd 15: Knit 20, turn work, purl 10. Knit these center 10 sts in St st for 9 rows. On 10th row: k10, pu 6 sts k-wise, k10, pu 6 k-wise, k10 (42 sts). Knit 5 rnds. Toe dec rnd (begin at front 10 sts, the ones worked in St st by turning): k2, k2tog, k4, k2tog, knit to end (40 sts). Next rnd: knit. Next rnd: k2, k2tog, k2, k2tog, knit to end (38 sts). Next rnd: knit. Distribute the sts over two dpns (19 sts on ea). Turn work inside out so the right sides are facing each other and use the 3-needle bind off to close the bottom of the bootie shut.
This creates a seam down the sole of the bootie but, at 3 mos, the baby shouldn’t be bothered by it.
I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially since the cuffs now matches the mitts I made.
