2021-01-22: Cast on in #314 of Blue Sky Alpaca Organic Cotton Skinny that’s been in my stash for many, many years…

…and then I ripped it out because (1) the CO didn’t feel stretchy enough for a toddler head (used my usual Long Tail CO method, which creates a neat but tight edge) and (2) I’ve never “picked up all previously wrapped stitches” when using Ws&Ts in the past (error on my part, in all likelihood, that somehow went unnoticed for years) so the shoulders looked atrocious. I was also distracted a lot during the set up rows and I was getting sloppy. So I learned the German Twisted Cast On method and started again! I picked up my wraps OK when I wrapped on the RS but I wrapped incorrectly on the WS (forgot to wrap purlwise, d’oh!) so those are awkward looking. They’re not awful so I think I’ll just live with them as they are.

Repeated rnds 1-4 of “Sleeve and Body Increases” section three times. Stopped because it was midnight and I didn’t want to make any more mistakes.

2021-01-23: Worked the body and sleeve increases until it was time to divide. Figured I should be a little more alert when I start doing that.

2021-01-26: Divided for body and sleeves using the central texture panel option. Used a technique I found somewhere (cocoknits?) where I cast on 2 fewer stitches for the underarms and on the next round increased using M1R on each side under each arm to minimize the gapping that happens when using the backward loop cast-on method. It was my first time doing it but the underarms appear so much neater! Will definitely try again in future projects.

2021-01-27: First time using Magic Knot technique for joining a new ball of yarn. I made sure to do it on the textured panel so the knot wouldn’t be visible if it popped out onto the right side. Worked out really well!

2021-01-28: Knit 4 rounds before my headache became too much.

2022-01-30: Continued knitting the body. It now measures 16cm under the arm. Another ~4cm before I begin the ribbing. Also had an opportunity to put the in-progress sweater on my son and it fits him and he likes it! I gotta hurry up and finish knitting it before he outgrows it

2021-01-31: Knit in pattern until it was 20cm in length and started on the ribbing. Got about halfway through before it got too late and I needed to join another ball of yarn

2021-02-01: Finished the ribbing on the body but I was too tired to try a new-to-me bind off method. I’ll be following The Blue Mouse Knits video tutorial for the tubular bind off in 1×1 rib in the round when I’m better rested and more alert.

2021-02-02: Tubular bind off! [shakes fist] Tried to follow three different tutorials and had to undo three times. I’m getting frustrated so I’m stepping away and will try again another day. Maybe I’ll do the sleeves in the meantime. Or maybe the neck.

2021-03-11: Uh-oh. A month went by without any progress and my son’s birthday is mere days away! I couldn’t get tubular BO to work (this tutorial—that I did not get a chance to try out—looks especially promising!) so I just cast off using Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bend-Off.
